About Josh Gibson MD

Josh Gibson is currently a certified executive and life coach and most recently worked for more than four years at Pilot 44, a prominent disruptive innovation studio located in San Francisco, California. Josh was responsible for managing a large portfolio of new digital transformation ideas, primarily in the medical and consumer sectors. His coaching work draws from more than 25 years of training and experience in the field of psychiatry and management consulting.

Dr. Gibson earned his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he received the Arnold P. Gold Foundation award for clinical excellence and commitment to humanism in medicine. He completed residency in psychiatry at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), receiving the Alexander Simon Award for teaching. He taught and supervised residents, serving as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry for over a decade. His clinical and educational work focused on the neurobiology of relationships.  He received the American Medical Association Foundation Leadership Award. He was selected for a fellowship with the Group for Advancement of Psychiatry (GAP), a psychiatric think-tank.

As the chairman of GAP’s committee on Work and Organizations, he led the writing and editorial work for CAREERS, a book that helps to better educate young adults about finding fulfillment in the world of work ( He also wrote a Relationship Primer for the Workplace, which was collected in the book Psychiatry of Workplace Dysfunction: Tools for Mental Health Professionals, Managers and Employees. Similarly, He has coached and taught many top executives how to develop high-performing teams through better understanding and use of emotion in the workplace.

Prior to becoming a psychiatrist, he was a senior consultant for Andersen Consulting (now Accenture), specializing in process re-engineering, organization development, and education design and delivery. He consulted to multiple Fortune 500 companies in the retail, financial services and healthcare industries before developing an interest in medicine while on a consulting project at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford.


As a student at Cornell University, Dr. Gibson won the Arthur Lynn Andrews award for fiction and graduated with an English Degree. He lives in San Rafael, California with his wife and two children. Also, He enjoys music, running and playing basketball. Josh is currently at work on both a novel and a collection of poetry.
